Empowerment: A Woman Must Know Her Own Power.

Day 5 — Empowerment: A Woman Must Know Her Own Power.

Women’s safety cannot begin and end with warnings.

Don’t go there.

Don’t wear this.

Don’t trust him.

Don’t travel alone.

Don’t speak too loudly.

Don’t take risks.

How long are we going to build a woman’s safety around a list of things she must not do?

Perhaps it is time to teach her something different.

Know your rights.

Know your worth.

Know your boundaries.

Know when to say NO.

Know when to walk away.

Know when to speak.

Know where to seek help.

And never be ashamed of asking for it.

An empowered woman is not a woman who never needs anyone.

She is a woman who knows that needing help does not make her weak—and accepting injustice is not the price she has to pay for being a woman.

Empowerment is education.

It is financial independence.

It is the freedom to make decisions about her own life.

It is knowing the law and having access to justice.

It is having people who believe her when she speaks.

It is having the courage to leave an unsafe situation without being judged for leaving.

And most importantly, empowerment is agency.

A woman should not have to become fearless to be safe.

She should be allowed to be afraid and still have the power to act.

Let us stop raising girls only to protect themselves from the world.

Let us raise them to understand the world, question it, challenge it, and claim their rightful space in it.

And let us raise boys who understand that a woman’s NO is complete in itself.

Because safety is not merely the absence of violence.

Safety is the presence of freedom.

A woman should not merely survive the world.

She should have the power to live fully in it.
